Mohammed Salah wins BBC African Footballer of the Year

The Egyptian playmaker has crowned the king of African football by BBC

Liverpool sensation Mohamed Salah has been voted BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2017. The 25-year-old Egypt forward beat off competition from Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Guinean Naby Keita, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Nigeria’s Victor Moses to be named the continent’s greatest player.

Asked about his win, Salah said: ‘I am very happy to win this award. ‘It’s always a special feeling when you win something. I feel like I had a great year, so I’m very happy.’

Salah, the current top goalscorer in the Premier League, was at the heart of an Egypt side which finished runners-up at the Africa Cup of Nations back in February. He added: ‘I want to be the best Egyptian ever so I work hard.
